About Event

We are excited to invite you to our first ever Mile City event! The event will be held on January 27th in conjunction with the UW Invite and is slated to start immediately following the last event on day two of the UW Invite. Mile City will feature a series of mile races that will run through the afternoon and into the evening with sections running slow to fast.

Mile City will be open to participants from middle school, high school, college, professional and masters ranks. Our goal is to create an exciting atmosphere and to provide an opportunity for all ages and abilities to be able to race a mile in the world-renowned Dempsey Indoor Facility. Entry standards will be much more flexible than our typical home meets.

Also just a reminder that for high school teams, coaches and runners - we will have our UW High School Invite on February 10th and 11th. Entries for both the Mile City event and the UW High School Invite are now open. We are looking forward to hosting you for another great indoor season in 2024.

Sincerely,
Andy Powell

MILE CITY MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of the Mile City event is to provide an energized setting for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy running a mile in the world-renowned Dempsey Indoor facility. Test your fitness, push your limits, or just have fun seeing how close you can get to your projected time. Our aim is to engage the community through the inspired movement of sport, promote a sense of ownership through simple action and to inspire the courage for all to get up, get out and try something new.

ABOUT DEMPSEY INDOOR FACILITY
Shadowed by the steep stairwells of Husky Stadium, the Dempsey Indoor Facility sits humbly along the northwestern banks of Lake Washington. The serene lakefront setting juxtaposed with the towering structures of the mighty University of Washington athletic facilities has been dubbed as one of the greatest settings in all of college athletics. The Dempsey is home to the track & field team at the UW, whose team members use it as a training ground during the grueling winter months and as a home site for the program’s world-class indoor track & field competitions. Measuring an odd 307 meters around, the Dempsey track is oversized compared to the industry standard 200m circumference. It’s Mondo surface, long straightaways and sweeping turns combine to provide an ideal setting for distance running. A full-size turf football field sits inside the oval, providing soft and stable footing large enough for an effective warm up area. Spectators will be placed around the circumference of the turf between the edges of the track and the warm up area. Instead of watching from a distance from stands or bleachers on the outside like traditional stadium seating, the spectator experience in the Dempsey is flipped. The event circumnavigates the crowd, creating a more visceral experience for both participants and spectators alike. Imagine being face-to-face with some of the best milers in the world as they whip around you - it’s an incredible showcase of the speed, power and strength that the event demands.
